FAQ's

Soneca is committed to providing excellent customer service with the right information, before they purchase anything from us.

Take a look at our answers to customers’ most commonly asked questions below. If you have anything not covered in the FAQ's, we are available on email or give us a call.

WHERE ARE YOUR PRODUCTS MADE?

We pride ourselves in supporting the local economy. Our beds are manufactured in Yorkshire and materials sourced locally.

DO YOU OFFER FREE DELIVERY?

We offer free delivery to most mainland UK postcodes. See our delivery section for further details on any exclusions.

DO YOUR BEDS FIT MATTRESSES PURCHASED OTHER RETAILERS?

All our beds are made using standard UK sizes and will fit any standard size mattress.

WHAT IS AN OTTOMAN BED?

This type of bed includes a storage area located directly beneath the mattress frame. This is accessed by lifting up the frame with the help of a built-in hydraulic system. The frame is so designed that the mattress stays in place while being lifted up.

WHAT IS THE STORAGE CAPACITY OF THE OTTOMAN BASE?

The storage capacity will depend on the size of the bed. In other words, the bigger the bed, the greater the storage capacity. However, for all sizes, the base height is typically 15” from the floor and the internal storage depth is 10”.

WHAT BED IS BEST FOR A SMALL BEDROOM?

The ‘bigger the better’ rule still applies. However, if you are buying a storage bed, make sure you have unobstructed access to the side where your ottoman lifts up.

IS AN ORTHOPAEDIC MATTRESS BETTER FOR YOUR BODY?

Not necessarily. If you suffer from pain and discomfort in your back and joints, sleeping on this type of mattress can alleviate stress on the spine and bring relief to painful pressure points. This is because the extra firm support it offers evenly distributes body weight and maintains natural alignment of the spine. If you do not suffer from these symptoms, however, a softer alternative might be preferable.

HOW DO POCKET SPRUNG MATTRESSES WORK?

These are made up of thousands of tiny springs, each placed inside its very own fabric pocket. These pockets are nested together, but each spring works independently for better support: the more pockets there are, the greater the support.

DOES MEMORY FOAM SMELL?

When delivered, memory foam mattresses sometimes have an odd smell, partly because they are often shipped vacuum packed and partly because of the chemicals used which give them their ‘memory’ quality. To get rid of the smell, leave your purchase in a well-ventilated room for a few days. If you think you might be allergic to the chemicals used in memory foam, please contact us prior to making any purchase.

MY SLEEPING PARTNER AND I HAVE DIFFERENT WEIGHTS, WHAT MATTRESS IS BEST FOR US?

We recommend a pocket sprung mattress, as this will ensure your respective body weight is supported in the area where you sleep.

CAN I PURCHASE A NEW MATTRESS ON ITS OWN?

All of our mattresses are available to be purchased separately.  The UK Sleep Council recommends that a new bed frame and mattress are bought at the same time, as the two are made to work together and the base will affect how your mattress feels and performs.

WHEN SHOULD I CHANGE MY MATTRESS?

We typically recommend changing a mattress every seven years. Once you have had your current mattress for about five years, start to look out for signs of wear and tear, or sooner if sleeping on it is becoming increasingly uncomfortable.
